Receiving test results from your GP

  • The results of investigations (eg blood tests, Xrays) that have been ordered by your GP will be posted onto your portal once your result has been reviewed by your GP.
  • This can take several days for most blood results and can be up to a few weeks for more specialised tests.
  • If there is something of concern with your results, we may ask you to come for an appointment or choose to call you before we post your result onto the portal.

Letters from specialists and other health care providers.

  • Letters from specialists are not automatically posted onto the patient portal.
  • If you wish to receive your specialist correspondence, then please ask your specialist to send you a copy of any letters.

Test results from specialists and external providers.

  • It is the responsibility of whoever ordered the test to communicate the results to the patient and arrange any follow up required.
  • Your GP may post these results on your portal, but any follow up of these tests should be directed to the clinician who arranged the test.
  • These results will only appear in your portal if the GP has been copied into the results by the specialist team. The nationwide policy for health providers encourages clinicians not to routinely copy GPs into all results due to the extra workload this creates for GP teams.
  • An appointment is required if a GP opinion is required to explain the results.

Due to the extra work involved answering messages and chasing up these patient requests for information about externally ordered tests a standard charge will apply as per our fees list.

The MyIndici portal has been implemented and funded by Halswellhealth to manage results ordered by the GP team and is not an appropriate default system for specialists and other providers to communicate results to the patients.

There is a nationwide agreement between GPs and the hospital teams on the management of results. https://www.tewhatuora.govt.nz/assets/Publications/2024-03-Transfer-of-Care-and-Test-Results-Responsibility-Final_signed-JB-RMcJ-RS.pdf
