We have created the Nurse Prescriber Role to assist with the growing demands of our medical centre and to give our patients the best quality of care and consistency in appointments going forward. 

All nurse prescriber appointments are in-person and cannot be virtual. 

 

What is a Nurse Prescriber? 

A Nurse Prescriber is a registered nurse with advanced training who can assess your health needs, diagnose certain conditions, and prescribe from a list of medications. They work collaboratively with doctors to provide comprehensive healthcare. 

Nurse Prescribers are able to treat patients in much the same way as doctors can, with the ability to prescribe medications. The team will have oversight directly with the clinical director, Dr Danielle Brown.

• Convenience: Appointments are often easier to schedule with a nurse prescriber. 

• Accessibility: Nurse prescribers can manage a range of common health conditions. 

 

Conditions Our Nurse Prescriber Can Help With: 

• Nurse Prescribers can help common issues such as: 

• Acute medical conditions (e.g., infections) 

• Can order diagnostic tests (bloods, x-rays etc) when appropriate 

• Contraception 

• Sexual health 

• Skin conditions 

• Other conditions where you are referred by your GP for ongoing care with the nurse prescriber 

• They prescribe from a restricted list of medications 

• Can prescribe medications from a limited formulary for common medicines for common and long-term conditions. 

• They cannot prescribe certain medications, such as controlled drugs, some anti-epileptics, some immunosuppressants, and some mental health medications, check with your GP next time you visit if you need clarification.
