COVID-19 Assessment and Testing at Halswellhealth

COVID-19 is a virus which will normally cause a mild viral illness but can cause more serious illness especially in vulnerable populations.

At Halswellhealth we are able to assess and test patients with viral symptoms safely in our designated Red Stream.

The symptoms of COVID-19 include any acute respiratory infection with at least one of the following:

  • a new or worsening cough
  • sore throat
  • shortness of breath
  • coryza (runny nose)
  • anosmia (loss of sense of smell)

All patients with any of the above symptoms need to be triaged before they can come to the surgery. We also encourage patients with the above symptoms to have a COVID-19 test which is available at the clinic free of charge.

If you or your family member has any of the above symptoms and need to see a doctor, get advice or get tested then please ring and we will arrange a GP or nurse to contact you on the phone. Please do not turn up the surgery unannounced as this can put our staff and other patients at risk. Please do not book an online appointment.

COVID-19 assessment- We have a Red stream at Ensign Street where we assess and treat patients with viral symptoms and arrange testing for COVID-19. This is an appointment based system and is reserved for unwell patients. All appointments are made following phone triage with a GP or nurse.

COVID-19 Car Park testing- There is COVID-19 testing clinic daily at Ensign Street. Please ring reception to book an appointment for a test.

COVID-19 RAT tests are also available at the Christchurch Community Based Assessment Centres (CBAC’s) at no cost. No referral or appointment is required.  To search for a CBAC click here
